Five agents Salesforce Help lists for Education Cloud map to moments a continuing education storefront already has: finding a section, checking a balance, choosing a certificate, asking about aid, and running a course. Each reads specific standard objects. Populate them and the agent is useful; skip that and it is a confident search box. ElevateActual configures them on standard data.
Why Map Agents to Storefront Moments?
A continuing education unit does not need an agent in the abstract. It needs fewer calls about which evening section runs in January, fewer receipt requests, and fewer "which certificate" emails. Those are moments on a storefront, and Salesforce Help documents agents that touch each one. This article takes the agents from the Agentforce for higher education guide and places each at the moment it serves, as Salesforce Help describes them as of October 2026. Nothing here goes beyond Help.
The storefront in question is Commerce on Core, ElevateActual's term for B2B or D2C Commerce on the Salesforce Platform with an LWR Experience Cloud storefront, connected to Education Cloud so that checkout creates the Course Offering Participant record. Because the storefront is an Experience Cloud site, it can host a learner-facing service agent, and Help notes that one inbound site connects to one agent at a time. Every agent requires Education Cloud plus the applicable Agentforce add-on license; some require more. Platform rule: an agent reads the records its running user can see, and nothing else.
Which Storefront Moment Does Each Agent Serve?
| Storefront moment | Help-listed agent | What it reads | What the unit must have in place | Who uses it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Finding the online section that runs in the spring | Course Search Agent (Course Search FAQ subagent, Get Learning Courses action) | LearningCourse, through Data 360 search | Learning Courses with descriptions, Course Offerings with term and delivery populated, Data 360 set up, a learner site to host the agent | Learners on the site; advisors as an employee agent |
| Asking what is owed and where the receipt is | Student Financials Agent | AcademicTerm, AcademicTermEnrollment, AcademicOrder, Order Product, Billing Schedule, Credit Memo, Invoice, Invoice Line | Revenue Cloud Advanced and Revenue Cloud Billing licenses (per Help), charges modeled on those objects, authenticated learners | Current learners |
| Choosing the certificate that fits a goal | Student Goals Agent for learners; Student Advising Topics for staff | Learner details from the EDU Cloud: Get Learner Details flow, LearningProgram, action plans, advising Case, knowledge articles | Programs described in records rather than PDFs, policy knowledge articles, an Advising case record type | Learners on the site; advisors in Salesforce |
| Asking about Workforce Pell and aid status | Financial Aid Agent (Describe Financial Aid Awards) | Financial aid data model objects in Data 360, fed from the aid system; Person Accounts with valid email | Data 360 license, a mapped feed from the aid system, published aid policy articles, the aid office's sign-off on scope | Verified prospects; logged-in learners |
| Setting up a course channel and seeing who is falling behind | Course Operations Agent in Slack | CourseOffering, CourseOfferingParticipant, AcademicTermEnrollment, Employee, advising Case | Slack, Employee records mapping instructors to Slack users, a Data 360 risk decision matrix, an Advising case record type | Instructors and support staff |
Course Search: Finding a Section by Modality or Term
Status. Help describes the Course Search Agent as one subagent, Course Search FAQ, with one action, Get Learning Courses. It is based on Data 360's Einstein Search, deployed as a service agent for learners or an employee agent for advisors. Rationale. A storefront already filters by term and modality. The agent earns its place when the question is conversational: a learner who works days and needs the project management course before March. Method. The action reads Learning Course records, and the answers a learner wants are often at the Course Offering level, where term, dates, and delivery live. Load the catalog so each LearningCourse carries a plain description and each CourseOffering carries its AcademicTerm, delivery format, and schedule, then test section-level questions in the testing center before promising them. The article on the Education Cloud data model for continuing education walks the chain. Platform rule: an agent cannot infer a modality that is not a field, and a catalog that exists only as Commerce products gives it nothing to read.
Student Financials: Balance and Receipt Questions
Status. The Student Financials Agent answers questions about term fees, balances, billing history, invoices, due dates, payment plans, and line items. Help lists the objects it queries: Academic Term, Academic Term Enrollment, Academic Order, Order Product, Billing Schedule, Credit Memo, Invoice, and Invoice Line. Help also lists Revenue Cloud Advanced and Revenue Cloud Billing licenses as required. Rationale. Here is the complication. On a Commerce on Core storefront the purchase is recorded on Order Summary records, the receipt is generated from the order, and there is often no invoice because the learner paid at checkout. Method. A unit has two choices. Adopt the Student Financials model, with fees as products and the billing objects populated, which is the path Help documents. Or answer "where is my receipt" with a custom action over the order summary, labeled in the scope as ordinary Agentforce configuration rather than a Help-listed subagent. Platform rule: if the charge was never an invoice, the agent cannot explain an invoice.
Advising Topics and Student Goals: Which Certificate Fits a Goal
Status. Two agents share this moment. The Student Goals Agent is learner-facing on an Experience Cloud site; Help says it recommends measurable goals and campus resources, including courses, support programs, and involvement groups, grounded by the EDU Cloud: Get Learner Details flow. Student Advising Topics is an employee agent that summarizes and finds advising cases, finds campus resources through a search retriever, answers policy questions from knowledge articles, and suggests to-dos or cases. Rationale. An advisor answers "which certificate" by asking about the goal, the schedule, and the prerequisites, then matching to a Learning Program. Method. Write each certificate as a LearningProgram with outcomes, prerequisites, and typical schedule in fields, not in a brochure PDF. Publish the policy questions as knowledge articles. Create an Advising record type on Case. Platform rule: Find Campus Resources runs on a data-model-object retriever, so the resources must be records it can reach.
Financial Aid: Workforce Pell Questions, Carefully
Status. Workforce Pell funding began on July 1, 2026, with final rules still pending at that point, according to reporting from NPR via Michigan Public. Help's Financial Aid Agent has one topic, Describe Financial Aid Awards, covering aid status, award details, estimated cost of attendance, disbursement dates, and satisfactory academic progress by award year. It requires Data 360, its answers come from financial aid data model objects mapped from the aid system, and it verifies identity first: logged-in learners skip the step, guests complete a one-time password by email, which requires a Person Account with a valid email. Rationale. Help is explicit about what the agent will not do: no financial advice, no accepting or declining awards, no submissions, no package changes, no breakdown by term. Method. That boundary is the right one for Workforce Pell. The agent can tell a verified learner their own status once the aid system feeds Data 360, and it can answer general questions from knowledge articles the aid office publishes, such as which programs the institution has listed as eligible and how to apply. It cannot determine eligibility, and we will not configure it to imply that it can. Platform rule: eligibility is the aid office's determination under rules still being finalized; the agent reports, it does not decide.
Course Operations in Slack for Staff
Status. The Course Operations Agent serves staff rather than learners, in Slack. Help lists four subagents: Course Offering Channel, which creates a Slack channel per course offering; Course Syllabus Canvas; Course Load Summary; and Student Risk Report, which evaluates participants against risk criteria, creates a record alert, opens a Slack channel for the student, and adds the advising case team. Rationale. Continuing education runs on part-time instructors who are rarely in the Salesforce org but already in Slack, and a channel per section with roster and syllabus attached is a real gain. Method. Help requires Data 360 for Education, a current CourseScoreCategorization decision matrix and data streams for the risk report, an Advising support process and case record type, and an Employee record for each instructor mapping the Contact to a Slack user ID. Platform rule: the agent walks from a Course Offering Participant to a Contact to an advising case, so a learner with no Contact link or no case record type breaks the chain.
What the Data Model Must Hold First
Every agent above reads the same small set of standard objects, which is the reason to build the catalog on them: AcademicTerm, LearningProgram for the certificate, LearningCourse, CourseOffering for the section with dates and delivery, CourseOfferingParticipant for the enrollment the storefront creates at checkout, Person Accounts with a working email, Case with an Advising record type, and published knowledge articles for policy. Rationale. An agent on a clean model is configuration; an agent on a messy one is a cleanup project with a chatbot on top. The guide to Salesforce Commerce for higher education describes how the storefront and the learner record share these objects. Platform rule: the order of construction is data, portal, knowledge, governance, agent.
Questions We Hear
Can the Course Search Agent run on our storefront site?
Help documents the Course Search Agent as a service agent for users on an Experience Cloud site, and a Commerce on Core storefront is one. Help notes that one inbound channel connects to one agent at a time, so the storefront hosts one agent. And the agent reads Learning Course records through Data 360 search, so the catalog must exist as Learning Courses and Course Offerings behind the Commerce products.
Will the Student Financials Agent answer receipt questions for storefront purchases?
Not as Help documents it. The agent queries Academic Order, Invoice, Invoice Line, Billing Schedule, and related objects, and Help lists Revenue Cloud Advanced and Revenue Cloud Billing licenses as required. A storefront purchase lives on Order Summary records with a receipt generated from the order. A unit either adopts the Student Financials billing model or scopes a custom action over the order summary, labeled as custom configuration.
Can an agent tell a learner whether Workforce Pell covers a program?
It can report, not decide. The Financial Aid Agent answers a verified learner's questions about their own aid status, awards, and disbursement from data the aid office feeds into Data 360, and general questions from knowledge articles the aid office publishes. Eligibility is the aid office's determination under rules still pending when funding began on July 1, 2026, so the agent points there for anything beyond published facts.
Do our adjunct instructors need Salesforce licenses to use the Course Operations Agent?
Help ties the agent to Slack and to Employee records that map each instructor's Contact to a Slack user ID. The instructor works in Slack; the agent reads the course records in Salesforce. Confirm licensing for instructors with your Salesforce account executive; we do not quote license terms. Each instructor needs an Employee record with an active status before the agent can add them to a channel.
Which agent should a continuing education unit turn on first?
Course Search, if the catalog already sits on Learning Course and Course Offering records and the storefront site is live. It reads data the unit maintains anyway, has one action, and fails quietly when it cannot answer. Student Advising Topics is the staff-side equivalent for units that already work cases in Salesforce. Leave Student Financials and Financial Aid for a later phase because of their extra license and integration requirements.
